Wiki News is an easy to use news site that allows registered people to post articles about anything that is going on in the world. It is supposed to be a neutral news site even though it has faced some backlash about it not being very neutral. Besides that Wiki News can be a good site to use to see different viewpoints about anything that is happening around the world. You are able to read articles about places that you may have never been too so it can be interesting learning what it is like in a different area. The random article feature is pretty cool as it will give you anykind of article that has been posted on their website, so if you do not know what you want to read about you can just click that link and read about something you may have never thought of.
Since I am a criminal justice major with a concentration in Homeland Security this site can be important to my field. We can be able to look at this site and make sure that there is no kind of threats being made through articles since anybody is able to use this site and post what they want on it. Another, way that this site can be used is to find out information about certain places like in different regions and learn what is happening over there. Wiki News can be a useful website for anybody to learn from, but it also be a very helpful tool in the criminal justice world.

ReplyDeleteI myself have been a bit reluctant to use this app because - as you said yourself- it did get a lot of back lash for not being neutral. However, I have learned it is very important to be open to all kinds of news channels whether they are correct or not.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of Wiki News before viewing your smackdown. It seems like an interesting source to access news from, I just wish it was more of a neutral option. I liked how you connected this tool to your future career path in criminal justice. It is very important for people in the security field to be made aware of any potential threats.
ReplyDeleteZach, Wiki News is a platform I am not really familiar with. But after your presentation I am educated on it. I like how people can express their opinions creating multiple viewpoints able to be projected. This allows for more opinions to be normalized as everyone has a right to it.
ReplyDeleteZack I have never dealt with WikiNews so your smackdown was informational for me. I think it is very similar to Apple News and serves as a great way to stay up to date with the current events of the world. However, one thing I am concerned about is that since the people who own wikipedia own this I would not trust everything shared as wiki has many self suggestions instead of concrete evidence.
ReplyDeleteZach, I will have to give this platform out. I get a lot of my news regarding what's going on in the world from Twitter. Which sounds bad, but to elaborate, I only get it from trusted reporting sources that post constant updates on the site. WikiNews might be a good alternative news source for current events as well.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of this application before but will be interesting to look into, regardless of neutrality, I've learned that it is important to take information from as many sources as possible to get a fair understanding.
ReplyDeleteZack, I've heard of WikiNews and occasionally read news on it, but after seeing your presentation, I'll use it more frequently because it refreshed my memory.
ReplyDeletehello zack ! i have to say i never heard of wiki news before and i really think my boyfriend would love to look into this, he is very interested in the news! as a criminal justice major this app is useful for learning and accessing news from anywhere. instead of looking into one area you can do more. i think this app is useful with many resources.
ReplyDeleteHi Zack! I've never used Wiki News. This is a refreshing way to learn about a new type of news forum. I enjoy the random button on Wikipedia, so I'm glad the feature extends to Wiki News.
ReplyDeleteHey Zach!! I have never heard of Wikinews before and your smackdown was a good first introduction. I really appreciated your smackdown not being biased and being honest about Wikinews receiving backlash for not being neutral. It’s super common when doing a presentation about something to be very biased and act as if it's the best thing in the world since sliced bread, it's important to acknowledge the cons.
ReplyDeleteHey Zach, I never heard of wiki news before, but I do think it is super influential and helpful for us, this is great for accessing news and being familiar with current events, this was one of the first tools that taught me about one, and how to work as well as control and learn from it. Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteHi, I would probably be reluctant to use Wikinews because if everyone is able to post their own version then you can't really trust whats true, but I guess thats just news in general at this point which is why I don't watch any of it
ReplyDeleteI understand that anyone can write their opinion or what they believe is true or not. however us as the person using it have to understand that. Every app has its pros and con and that just a con in this instance. However, it is still a Pro because people like to voice their opinions or what they believe is factual.
ReplyDeleteHey Zack, this app seems very useful in keeping up to date with current news. As much as I use apple news, which is not a lot, I could see myself also indulging in this app researching topics for maybe a paper or such. It seems very professional and a overall good resource to find news about anything. I also see this page applying to your job of homeland security as you monitor for threats and fake news.
