Blog #3: Chapter 5

 The internet is full of important tools that the average person can use on their own all the time, it is critical that in today's world that people have to be able to use them effectively. There is a wide range of tools like this that perform many different tasks that can help a person gain more knowledge or help provide more knowledge to others. The first set of tools is for documenting and archiving learning which would be tools like social bookmarking and delicious. Being able to save websites that you can go back to and even highlighting the important information that you need is very beneficial for research. The other set of tools is for connecting and collaborating which is great to be able to find out information about a certain topic that you have. Blogs and podcasts are a great way to gather more information from other people that you can choose to listen to. There are also tools for social networking that could help you get a feel for how people connect, interact, and collaborate with each other online. 



The chapter also talks about managing your online reputation which is important in today's world especially the criminal justice world. As the book says people are defined by what comes up on Google when they search your name. It is important to be able to have a positive digital footprint on the web because you would not be able to have a job in this field if you did not. Being able to be organized is crucial in the criminal justice major because you would not be able to get any work done if you do not know where you got your information from if you had to write a report. Also, tools like Google documents is another tool that is used in the criminal justice major and career as you can write anything you want and it will save it so you can go back to it if you have to fix anything else.
