Blog #1: Chapter 2
The advancements in technology have allowed humans to be able to communicate with one another on various information. With the internet, people are able to increase their own knowledge about a topic as well as help increase others too. Connected learning communities are about to help diversify our knowledge of a topic by having new ideas come to us from other people when we may have not thought about it that way before.
There are three critical components to the connected learning communities model according to The Connected Educator, professional learning communities, personal learning networks, and communities of practice. The first one is professional learning communities which is about working collectively as a professional team to reach a goal. This is done by coming together and talking about what has worked and reflecting on it. Personal learning networks are for individuals to help themselves have greater professional growth and learning. These networks are created by ourselves so they are different from one another. The last one is communities of practice which is about a group of people that have similar interests sharing information with each other. Connected learning communities are able to expand the learning of participants with context and resources that can help them with self-awareness. The more diverse a community is the more information can be shared meaning that more people can learn about a problem they may have or a solution to someone else's problem.
Zack I also think that thanks to the internet that humanity has been able to share its diversity when it comes to other people's culture which has helped connect bridges for folks of varying backgrounds. I as a fellow criminal justice major I can relate to how you see things when it comes to the handiness of technology. As fellow practitioners we must be able to deal with a complex variety of issues and things do not always have to be dealt with in the physical world. things as cyber crime and money laundering take place online and we must be able to deal with potential offenders who think that they can get away with it because they believe there is no authoritative presence online. My question for you would be do you think that colleges and universities should have a class to prepare us for such incidents like the ones i mentioned prior? As of now I think it is optional but not enforced by the majority of institutions.
ReplyDeleteI think that was really interesting and very natural on how he actually explained that. in terms of his chapters, I think he read them all very well and gathered a lot of information. on the information that he received from the readings, he gave a lot of knowledgeable topics in terms of networks and other communication aspects in chapter 6
